KAIROS
The Right Moment

A project by Christian Zott

The Exhibition

The Kairos exhibition shows the unseen from 2,000 years of European art history: forgotten works and those that were never created. "KAIROS. The Right Moment" brings together photographs by Mauro Fiorese and paintings created by Wolfgang Beltracchi especially for this art project. The photographs show the unseen works of the past stored in the archives of important European museums. Fiorese sought out the depots and makes the profusion of art history vivid. Wolfgang Beltracchi devotes his attention to paintings that were never made: Paintings in the handwriting of style-defining painters of the past, capturing significant historical motifs and events missing from art history. With the Kairos exhibition, initiator and art promoter Christian Zott opens up a playful and vivid approach to 2000 years of art: from a contemporary perspective, it shows what was and what could have been.

Kairos

The Greek god Kairos, godfather of the exhibition title, with traditional attributes in a sculpture ("Diversus", 2019, bronze, 162 cm (h)) by Bruno Wank in front of the mSE Kunsthalle. Kairos is the god for the right moment of a decision. If he rushes by, the moment is seized by grabbing the god by his lock of hair.

The people behind the exhibition

"I consider KAIROS a success, if we can excite people who like art to deepen their knowledge of painting and history in such a way that they feel more in touch with art and have mor fun with it."

Christian Zott

The idea giver is looking for unpainted moments in the history of art.

Christian Zott was born in 1960 south of Munich. At age 27, he founded the consulting company mSE Solutions that is globally active today. 2010 he went on a hike and walked though southern Europe, for 5,000 kilometers, from west ot east. His aim: to get to the bottom of his thoughts and to develop new ideas. On his journey he met Mauro Fiorese with whom he initiated the idea for "KAIROS. The Right Moment". Zott has been collecting contemporary art for many years, and examines art from a philosophical point of view.

"The surprise of a confrontation with paintings that had never existed but which one thinks to recognize may cange -- in the best case -- your perception of the painting. Is it about the work itself or about the brand behind it?"

Wolfgang Beltracchi

For "KAIROS. The Right Moment", the painter creates unique paintings in the artistic voices of era-defining artists.

Wolfgang Beltracchi (nee Fischer) was born in 1951 as the son of a church-painter. In his early years he was already helping his father, getting to know his profession, and devouring books on art. Quite naturally he set the foundation of his profound artistic understanding and for his exceptional talent with which he later baffled and tricked the artworld.

"Museum archives don't seem to be places that ar made to keep beauty alive. They have, however, a certain spirit with a particular kind of magic that is hard to describe."

Mauro Fiorese

The photographer takes us to the hidden treasures of the Uffizi gallery and other museum depots.

Mauro Fiorese (1970--2016) belongs among the internationally renowned and recognized photographers of our time. His works were presented at the Bibliothéque Nationale de France in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and at the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea in Mailand among others. In early 2016, he was awarded as one of the socially most important artists world wide at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
